Anna Dohnanska
Painter of
Two Worlds
Celebrating life, beauty, and harmony through colour, symbolism, and memory.
Anna Dohnanska is a Slovak-born, Luxembourg-based artist whose work dances between two worlds: the grounded beauty of everyday life and the boundless wonder of the infinite. Her art is an invitation - to pause, to breathe, to notice the colours, shapes, and stories that make life both tender and extraordinary.
Born in Trenčín, Slovakia, Anna studied Philosophy and English Language and Literature, a foundation that deepened her love for ideas, beauty, and expression before beginning her career as a teacher. In 2008, she moved to Luxembourg, where the pull of her earliest passion - painting - became irresistible. Since 2017, she has also been sharing her knowledge as an art instructor at the Foyer Européen in Luxembourg, inspiring others to explore their own creative voice.
Her journey began in childhood, sketching endlessly and finding peace in the stillness of galleries. As a teenager, she painted small oil flower pieces, lovingly framed by her father, which she both sold and gifted - early signs of the connection her art would create with others. Anna paints with her left hand and writes with her right - a natural balance that mirrors the harmony at the heart of her work.
Anna’s creativity flows into two distinct yet complementary styles:
Contemporary Classics, grounded in the beauty of nature, memory, and tradition - celebrating the richness of lived experience.
Philosymbolism, her signature style, rooted in philosophical thought and symbolic form, a luminous fusion of colour, gold, and flowing lines that reach beyond the visible, exploring infinity, continuity, and the ever-present rhythm of life.
She works in oil, acrylic, and pastel, often enhancing her pieces with gold leaf to capture movement and light. Whether portraying a familiar flower or an endless golden spiral, her paintings are guided by a belief in beauty as a source of joy and harmony - a quiet celebration of the human spirit.
“Beautiful objects are beautiful to us because we lend them our soul.”
Exhibition History
Over the past decade, Anna’s artistic path has brought her work to audiences across Europe and the United States, each exhibition becoming a celebration of colour, beauty, and human connection. She has been a recurring artist in the internationally recognized ARTBOX Project, with shows in vibrant cultural capitals such as New York, Basel, Zurich, Venice, and Palma. In 2021, her painting Wedding Day was selected as a semi-finalist at the Swiss Art Expo, and her work was also presented at Stricoff Gallery during New York’s Armory Artweeks.
In Luxembourg, Anna has shared her paintings through solo exhibitions at venues including the European Court of Auditors and PLEZURO, as well as in group shows at the Foyer Européen.
Her art has also been featured beyond gallery walls - in 2022, she was highlighted by Inside Schroders magazine and on Schroders’ official LinkedIn following her solo show at their Luxembourg office. That same year, her paintings appeared in three consecutive issues of British Vogue, presented alongside a curated selection of contemporary artists.
Through every exhibition, Anna seeks to offer more than visual pleasure - creating spaces where colour, symbolism, and emotion meet, and where viewers can feel both uplifted and inspired.

Artist Statement
My art explores two interconnected worlds:
the Infinite and the Intimate
Through Philosymbolism, my original style rooted in philosophical thought and symbolic expression, I invite viewers to experience continuity, vitality, and the unseen energies that flow through life. Inspired by metaphysics and the idea of boundlessness, I use luminous colour, gold leaf, and flowing forms to create a visual language that radiates joy, movement, and harmony. These works are philosophical meditations on life, energy, and transformation, celebrating the beauty that surrounds and sustains us.
In contrast, my Contemporary Classics reflect the tangible world: landscapes, florals, and portraits grounded in memory and lived experience. These paintings honour presence – the subtle poetry of seasons, the warmth of places, and the treasured stories carried across generations.
What unites both styles is a devotion to depth – emotional, symbolic, and visual – and a desire to celebrate life. Painting, for me, is a way to pause time, awaken joy, and share a sense of connection, wonder, and the harmonious beauty of our world.
